rubber duck debugging is when you solve your problem just by explaining what it is you are doing, in detail, to a rubber duck. talking through something is often helpful, even without input from another person - in the process of explaining, you may just answer your own question.people generally don't have someone happy to be talked at on hand at all times, though; hence the rubber duck.
i personally serve as my housemate's rubber duck all the time; they come to my room, think out loud for a bit, and then figure out whatever it is that was on their mind without me providing any input at all. i don't mind! i am a notorious snoop and gossip, so i like hearing what's on somebody's mind, and it's nice to get credit for being helpful when i didn't even need to do anything, heh heh.
